Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne women's soccer team will play their final non-conference game of the regular season on Wednesday at Ted Grant Field against Canisius University.
The match will kickoff at 3:00 p.m., and it will be streamed on
NEC Front Row.
Le Moyne and Canisius have faced off in women's soccer a total of eight times between 1986 and 1997. The Golden Griffins hold a 6-2 record against the Dolphins. Le Moyne claimed a 2-1 win at home over Canisius in 1989, then the 'Phins bested the Griffs again in 1990 in Buffalo by a score of 3-2. The last time the two sides met in 1997, Canisius recorded a 2-1 win over Le Moyne in Syracuse during their second game of the season.
The Golden Griffins currently hold a 3-1-3 record in 2023 with shutout victories over Youngstown State and St. Bonaventure, along with three 0-0 draws against Binghamton, Detroit Mercy and Buffalo.
Most recently, Canisius defeated Saint Peter's on Saturday by a score of 3-1 with the help of two goals from junior midfielder Emma Oliphant. On the season, Oliphant leads Canisius in points with three goals and an assist through seven games.
Canisius sophomore defender Meghan Heath, junior defender Sophia Konstantinou and sophomore midfielder Lizzy Harkness have each logged over 600 minutes this season for the Griffs with seven starts. Heath has played the full 90 minutes in each of the team'
Junior goalkeeper Jordan Spencer has tallied five shutouts through six games played for the Golden Griffins. She has compiled 27 saves with one goal allowed in 2023. The lone goal came during the 3-1 win over Saint Peter's.
Wednesday's contest with be the final non-conference game for Canisius, which opens MAAC play on Saturday, September 16 at home against Manhattan.
Through two home games so far this season, the Dolphins have recorded two 1-1 draws.
Le Moyne tied Rhode Island in their home opener on September 3 with the help of a
Sierra Edwards (Greece, N.Y./Hilton/Monroe) goal in the 75
th minute off an assist from
Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa).
The 'Phins also recorded a 1-1 tie at Ted Grant Field against undefeated Robert Morris on September 8. The Colonials took a 1-0 lead in the 21
st minute, then Le Moyne tied the game early in the second half on a penalty kick goal from sophomore defender
Jasmina Barhoumi (Worms, Germany/Nelly-Sachs-IGS/D'Youville).
Barhoumi has played a team-high 630 minutes so far this season, and she is tied for the team lead in points along with senior defender/midfielder
Jenicah Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland/Cazenovia).
Le Moyne graduate goalkeeper
Allison Moreau (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) recorded her 250
th career save during the match at Seton Hall on Sunday, and she now ranks 10
th in program history in career saves. Her 7.27 saves per game during the 2021 season is tied for the sixth-best single-season average in program history, her 1.38 goals against average in 2022 is tied for the fourth-best single-season average in program history, and her five clean sheets last season are tied for the third-most by a Le Moyne goalkeeper in a single season in program history.
Her 44 saves so far this season are the third most among Northeast Conference goalkeepers.
Freshman forward
Sofia Sanzo (Niskayuna, N.Y./Colonie) has recorded a team-best eight shots for the 'Phins, including a shot on target that was saved off the goal line by a Robert Morris defender during the team's 1-1 draw against the Colonials on Friday.
The Dolphins tied their season-high total of 10 shots during the game against RMU. They previously recorded 10 shots during a 3-2 win at Niagara on August 27.
