Syracuse, N.Y. – In their first competition facing Division I opponents, the Le Moyne College women's and men's cross country teams both finished in the top-13 at the University of Rochester's Yellowjacket Invitational on Saturday morning. The men's team finished in 11th place, while the women's placed 13th.
Cornell University won the men's team competition with a meet-record 15 points after having the top five scorers and the top 12 finishers. Colgate University recorded five of the next 11 scorers to finish in second place with 74 points. SUNY Geneseo was third with 123 points. The Dolphins tallied 330 points to place 11th in the field of 20 teams.
Freshman
Tyler Cooper (Sloatsburg, N.Y./Suffern) recorded a time of 26:53.3 over the eight-kilometer course to lead the Dolphins with a 44th-place finish. Redshirt junior
Matt Bartolotta (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) was four spots back in 48th place with a time of 26:57.7. Redshirt junior
Nick Berg (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) was the third Dolphin to cross the finish line with a mark of 28:47.8 to place 128th. Junior
Jack Gibson (Ilion, N.Y./Central Valley Academy) placed 136th in 28:59.3, while freshman
Mike Purvis (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) rounded out the team's scorers with a time of 29:17.0 to place 148th.
Cornell also captured the women's team competition with 26 points after having five of the top nine scorers. SUNY Geneseo came in second place with 48 points after posting five of the top 17 scorers. Hamilton College rounded out the top three with 135 points. The Dolphins registered 392 points to finish in 13th place in the field of 21 teams.
Redshirt junior
Sophia Bisognano (Albany, N.Y./Colonie) finished in 32nd place with a time of 23:39.0 over the six-kilometer course. Junior
Anita Jepchirchir (Eldoret, Kenya/The Kenya High School) was the second Dolphin to complete the race with a time of 24:48.7 to place 78th.
Freshman
Mackenzie Ples (Lowville, N.Y./Lowville) registered a mark of 25:18.9 to place 107th, while sophomore
Alexandra Jacob (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) turned in a time of 27:52.4 to place 182nd. Freshman
Amanda Lowenguth (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) rounded out the scorers for the Dolphins with a 200th-place finish in 28:48.3.
The Dolphins return to action on Saturday, September 30 at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. The men start at 9:30 a.m. and the women follow at 11:45 a.m.
