Verona, N.Y. – Senior
Tyler Birdd (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) tied for 18th place to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to an 11th-place finish at Boston College's Red Bandanna Invitational on Sunday and Monday at the Turning Stone Resort's par-72, 7105-yard Kaluhyat Golf Club.
West Virginia University topped the 15-team field with an eight-over par 872 following rounds of one-over 289, 294 and 289. The host Eagles finished two shots back with an 874 after turning in scores of four-under par 284, 297 and 293. George Mason University placed third with an 893 following scores of 299, 294 and 300. Le Moyne tallied a 942 off rounds of 319, 312 and 311. West Virginia's Max Green earned medalist honors with a three-under par 213 following rounds of four-under 68, 75 and two-under 70.
Birdd opened his fourth season as a Dolphin by finishing in a three-way tie for 18th in the field of 84 competitors with a 225. He tallied a 74 in the first round to land in an eight-way tie for 13th place. He dipped into a three-way tie for 20th with a 76 in the second round. He moved up two spots after posting a 75 in the third round.
Senior
Spencer Baum (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) tallied a 237 to finish in a three-way tie for 51st place. He was part of a four-way tie for 54th after an 81 in the first round. He jumped up 12 spots with a 76 over the second 18 holes. He turned in an 80 on the final day.
Junior
Johnny Gruninger (Syracuse, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) finished in a four-way tie for 54th place with a 239. He turned in an 84 in the first round to place in a four-way tie for 66th, jumped into a three-way tie for 57th with a 77 in the second round and then moved up another three places with a 78 on Monday.
Senior
Anthony Falgiatano (Cicero, N.Y./Bishop Grimes), who was part of the Le Moyne lineup for the first time in his career, tied for 62nd place with a 241. He opened with an 80 to land in a four-way tie for 50th, carded an 83 in the second round to move into a three-way tie for 60th and then posted a 78 in the third round.
Graduate student
Luke Barney (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) placed 76th with a 264 following rounds of 85, 90 and 89.
The Dolphins return to action on Saturday, September 16 for a dual match against Niagara University at Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor.
