Nicholas Bove (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) tied for 17th place to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a tie for 15th place at Appalachian State's The Surf Club Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the par-71, 6696-yard The Surf Golf and Beach Club.
The Dolphins finished the 18-team, 54-hole event with a score of 880 following rounds of 303, 288 and 289. The 880 is the team's best 54-hole score of the year and tied for the best over the last four years. The University of Connecticut won the team competition with a 27-under par 825 off rounds of 278, 274 and 273. Radford placed second with a 13-under 839 (284-276-279) and Appalachian State was third with a 12-under 840 (283-282-275). Appalachian State's Addison Beam won medalist honors via a sudden-death playoff with a par on the par-3 18th hole after tying UConn's Ray Dennehy at 10-under par 203.
Bove finished the invitational in a six-way tie for 17th with a one-under par total of 212, the second-best 54-hole performance of his career. He registered 13 birdies and 30 pars. His 13 birdies tied for the fourth-most in the 110-player field. He opened with a 73, which featured four birdies and nine pars, to land in a 14-way tie for 39th place. He followed with a one-over par 72, which featured four more birdies and nine more pars, but dipped into a nine-way tie for 41st place. He leaped 24 places up the standings on Tuesday with five birdies and 12 pars for a four-under par 67, which is tied for the best performance of his 94-round career.
Sophomore
Anthony Maglisco (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) recorded a career-best 221 to finish in a four-way tie for 65th place. He tallied eight birdies and 33 pars over the three rounds. He opened with a 76, which included a birdie and 13 pars, to land in an eight-way tie for 71st place. He then carded a 72, which featured four birdies and nine pars, in the second round to move into an eight-way tie for 60th. He registered a 73 in the final round, which included three birdies and 11 pars.
Senior
Tyler Birdd (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) finished in a four-way tie for 69th place with a season-best 222 after registering 32 pars, six birdies and one eagle. He opened with a 76, which featured a pair of birdies and 10 pars, to join Maglisco in the eight-way tie for 71st place. He then carded two birdies, an eagle and another 10 pars en route to a 72 to move into the eight-way tie for 60th. He closed out the invitational with a 74, which included two birdies and 12 pars.
Freshman
Owen Corby (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) tallied a 225 to finish in a three-way tie for 81st place after recording 35 pars and five birdies. He registered a 78 in the first round, which included one birdie and 11 pars, to land in an eight-way tie for 82nd place. He turned in four birdies and nine pars on his way to a 72 to move into a nine-way tie for 74th. He recorded 15 pars in the final round to finish with a 75.
Graduate student
Luke Barney (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) recorded 27 pars and four birdies en route to a 235, which landed him in a three-way tie for 99th place. He posted six pars and two birdies in the first round to land in a five-way tie for 98th with an 80. He followed with a 79, including 11 pars, to move into a three-way tie for 99th. He closed out the event with two birdies and 10 pars en route to a 76.
The Dolphins return to action at Iona University's Battle at Rum Pointe March 29 and 30 at Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links in Berlin, Maryland.
