Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne men's lacrosse team looks to start a season-closing win streak when it visits Lafayette College on Friday evening. The matchup marks the first ever game between the two programs.
Â
Lafayette has been up and down in 2024. The Leopards have struggled during Patriot League play, going just 2-5 in conference. Lafayette downed Boston University 11-10 in its last game on Saturday, April 13, but had lost its previous three contests. The Leopards are allowing over 13.5 goals per game in the Patriot League. Their offense hasn't been a major issue, though. Lafayette is averaging nearly 11 goals over its last seven games.
Â
The Leopards were strong in their early non-conference schedule. After losing the opener to a ranked Delaware squad, Lafayette rattled off three consecutive wins over Hampton, Drexel and Binghamton. The matchup with Le Moyne is the fifth and final non-conference matchup on the Leopards' schedule. Lafayette ends its regular season at home against Patriot League foe Lehigh on Friday, April 26.
Â
Senior attacker Charlie Cunniffe tops the Leopards roster in goals, assists, and points. Cunniffe has notched 26 goals this season, including five hat-tricks. He tallied a season-high six goals and ten points in a win over Binghamton on February 24. Cunniffe has found the back of the net in all but two games in 2024. He's coming off a three goal and two assist performance against Boston University.
Â
Another senior attacker, Peter Lehman, is close behind Cunniffe in multiple categories. Lehman has 20 goals, which ranks third on Lafayette, and 11 assists, placing second. He's scored in 10 of his 11 appearances, including a current streak of six straight games. Lehman is a consistent threat and has seven multi-goal outings. He's also a strong passer, recording three assists in his last two contests. Lehman has 13 points in his past four matchups.
Â
Sophomore goalie Joe Doherty is a staple in net for the Leopards. Doherty has started every game for Lafayette and is currently posting a 51.5% save percentage. He has 10+ saves in three straight contests and has reached the mark eight times. His season-best in that category came in the first game of the season against Delaware. Doherty recorded 18 saves in the loss. However, he's allowed 10 or more goals in all but three games this year.
Â
Lafayette has struggled taking care of the ball in 2024. The Leopards have 33 more turnovers than their opponents this season. They are strong on clear opportunities, though, converting on over 84% of their attempts. Lafayette also averages nearly 40 shots per game.
Â
Le Moyne dropped its fourth consecutive game in a close 7-5 loss at Bucknell University on Friday, April 12. It was the Dolphins' lowest scoring effort of the season. Just three Le Moyne players found the back of the net.
Â
Despite the loss, redshirt freshman
Carter Ruhm had a strong performance in net. The goalie posted nine saves, parrying over 56% of shots away. His seven goals against were the third-least Ruhm has allowed all year. Bucknell fired 30 shots against Le Moyne.
Â
Two Dolphins players tallied two goals against Bucknell. Redshirt junior attackman
Ethan Loun, who leads Le Moyne in scoring, scored twice in the loss. Sophomore midfielder
Zack Crosby also found the back of the net twice. It was Crosby's first time on the scoresheet in 2024.
Â
Le Moyne's matchup with Lafayette is its penultimate contest of 2024. The Dolphins return home to face Holy Cross on Thursday, April 25, for their final game of the season.
