Nicholas Bove (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) and sophomore
Anthony Maglisco (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) finished in a tie for 12th place to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Northeast Conference Championship Friday through Sunday at the par-72, 6981-yard Callaway Resort & Gardens Mountain View Course.
Howard University cruised to its first conference championship with an NEC-record 54-hole score of five-under 859 to win by 12 strokes after posting scores of 283, 278 and 298. LIU and Sacred Heart finished in second place with an 871 total. LIU recorded rounds of 285, 283 and 303, while Sacred Heart posted scores of 288, 292 and 291. The Dolphins posted rounds of 300, 299 and 304 for a 903 total to place sixth, the same place they were predicted to finish by the coaches in the February preseason poll. Sacred Heart's Marcus Lim won his second NEC individual championship with an NEC-record score of 8-under 208 following rounds of 65, 68 and 75.
Bove and Maglisco finished in a four-way tie for 12th place with a three-day total of five-over par 221. Bove tallied a team-best 10 birdies and 31 pars in his final collegiate event. He opened the championship with a 74, which featured four birdies and 10 pars, to land in a five-way tie for 16th place. He carded another 74, with four more birdies and eight pars, to remain in a tie for 16th place. He closed out his career with a 73, which included 13 pars and a pair of birdies, to move up four spots on Sunday.
Maglisco registered seven birdies and a team-high 38 pars, the fourth-most in the field, on his way to his 221. He tallied four birdies and 13 pars on Friday as he registered a career-best three-under par round of 69 to land in a four-way tie for third place. He carded a 75, which featured 12 pars ad two birdies, in the second round to slip to a tie for seventh place. He dipped to the tie for 12th on Sunday with a 77, which included 13 pars and one birdie.
Freshman
Owen Corby (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) finished in 25th place with a total of 226, which featured six birdies 34 pars. He opened with a 78, which included 11 pars and one birdie, to land in a five-way tie for 33rd place. He moved up into a tie for 23rd place on Saturday with a 74, which featured two birdies and 12 pars. He turned in another 74 on Sunday, which included three birdies and 11 pars, but slipped two spots.
Graduate student
Luke Barney (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) concluded his career by tying for 38th with a 237, which included five birdies and 26 pars. He carded two birdies and six pars en route to an 81 on Friday to land in a four-way for 48th place. He moved up nine places on Saturday with a 76, which featured two more birdies and 10 pars. He moved up another spot with an 80 in the final round, which included 10 more pars and one birdie.
Senior
Tyler Birdd (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) tied for 41st place with a total of 240, which included 29 pars and two birdies. He opened with a 79, which featured 12 pars, to land in a six-way tie for 38th place. He carded nine pars and one birdie in the second round to finish in a tie for 43rd place. He moved up two places on Sunday with an 81, which included eight pars and one birdie.
