Rehoboth Beach, Del. – Senior
Mia Avotins (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) tied for seventh place to lead the Le Moyne College women's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the Battle at the Creek hosted by Sacred Heart University on Monday and Tuesday at the par-71, 5805-yard Kings Creek Country Club.
Mount St. Mary's University won the team competition with a 54-hole score of 954 following rounds of 318, 326 and 310. Monmouth University was four shots back in second place with a 958 after recording scores of 311, 332 and 315. Bucknell University and Sacred Heart tied for third at 959. The Bison posted rounds of 309, 317 and 333, while the host Pioneers tallied scores of 315, 324 and 320. The Dolphins registered rounds of 324, 339 and 341 to place seventh with a 1004. Maya Robilio from Sacred Heart earned medalist honors with a total of 227 off rounds of 74, 77 and 76.
Avotins finished in a three-way tie for seventh place in the 50-member field with a total of 238, which featured 35 pars and one birdie. She opened the invitational with a 78, which included 13 pars. She then tallied 12 pars en route to a 79 to land in ninth place. She moved up two places on Tuesday with an 81, which featured one birdie and 10 pars.
Sophomore
Gianna Cafarella (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory School) placed 26th with a 249, which included two birdies and 22 pars. She registered one birdie and 11 pars on the way to a 76 - the second-best round of her career - in the first round. She dropped to 30th place following a 92, including five pars, in the afternoon. She carded an 81, including one birdie and six pars, on Tuesday to move up four spots.
Junior
Riley Stuver (Webster, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy), freshman
Olivia Dahn (Bristol, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) and junior
Thais Forbes (Miami, Fla/Coral Gables (Fla.)), who played as an individual, finished in a three-way tie for 41st place.
Stuver, who recorded one birdie and 18 pars over the three rounds, opened the invitational with an 82, including one birdie and eight pars, and followed with a 91 with five pars in the afternoon. She posted a 90 with five more pars in the final round.
Dahn, who carded three birdies and 21 pars overall, registered a 93 with seven pars in the morning and followed with an 81, featuring one birdie and eight pars, in the second round. She turned in an 89, including two birdies and six pars, on Tuesday.
Forbes, who registered one birdie and 24 pars, recorded an 87 in the first round, including one birdie and six pars, and then turned in an 83, featuring 12 pars. She carded a 93, including six pars, on the second day.
Freshman
Lauren Williams (San Francisco, Calif./University HS) placed 46th with a 268, including a team-high four birdies and 12 pars, to round out Le Moyne's lineup. She registered back-to-back rounds of 88 on Monday. She had two birdies and five pars in the first round and two birdies and four pars in the afternoon. She closed out the invitational with three pars and a 92.
The Dolphins are back in action at Youngstown State University's Roseann Schwartz Invitational on Sunday and Monday at Mill Creek Golf Course's North Course in Boardman, Ohio.
