WOMEN’S GOLF OPENS SPRING SEASON AT BABS STEFFENS INVITATIONAL

DeBary, Fla. – The Le Moyne College women's golf team opened the Spring season by placing 14th at the Babs Steffens Invitational hosted by Stetson University on Monday and Tuesday at the par-72, 6085-yard Debary Country Club.

The host Hatters won the team competition with a 54-hole score of 876 after rounds of 296, 285 and 295. Jacksonville University placed second with an 893 off scores of 302, 300 and 291. Seton Hall University came in third with a 911 after posting rounds of 312, 294 and 305. The Dolphins registered a 1015 following rounds of 341, 337 and 337. Jillian Fatkin from Queens University earned medalist honors with a one-over par 217 after rounds of one-over 73, one-under 71 and one-over 73.

Senior Mia Avotins (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) finished in a four-way tie for 46th place with a 241, which included 28 pars and three birdies. She opened with a 77, which included 12 pars and one birdie, to land in a five-way tie for 21st place. She posted 10 pars and another birdie in the afternoon on Monday to finish with an 80, which moved her into a four-way tie for 33rd place. She recorded an 84 in the third round, which included six pars and one birdie.

Sophomore Gianna Cafarella (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory School) tied for 69th place with a 254, which included 24 pars and a pair of birdies. She opened Monday with an 86, which included eight pars and one birdie, to land in a tie for 68th place. She tallied eight more pars and another birdie en route to an 83 in the second round, but slipped a spot in the standings. She had another eight pars and an 85 in the third round.

Freshman Lauren Williams (San Francisco, Calif./University HS) posted a 261, which included 24 pars and two birdies, to tie for 73rd place. She tallied a 90 in the opening round, which included five pars and one birdie, to tie for 76th place. She turned in a 91 in the second round, which included nine pars, to move into a tie for 80th place. She jumped seven places on Tuesday after tallying an 80, which included 10 pars and a birdie.

Freshman Olivia Dahn (Bristol, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) placed 79th with a 269, which included 19 pars and one birdie. She was in a three-way tie for 71st place after posting an 88 in the first round, which included six pars. She had six more pars and a birdie on her way to a 93, which moved her into the tie for 80th with Williams. She moved up one spot on Tuesday with an 88, which included seven pars.

Junior Riley Stuver (Webster, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) recorded a 280, including 15 pars and one birdie, to place 82nd. She had two pars and one birdie en route to a 96 in the first round, which landed her in 83rd place. She jumped to 77th place with an 83 in the second round, which included eight pars. She turned in five pars in the third round en route to a 101.

Playing as an individual, sophomore Cambell Kennedy (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa) placed 80th with a 272, which included 14 pars and two birdies. She was in a tie for 81st place following a first-round 95, which featured five pars. She carded a birdie and four pars in the second round as part of an 88 to land in 82nd. She moved up two spots with an 89 in the third round, which included five pars and one birdie.

The Dolphins are back in action at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary on March 24 and 25 at Kingsmill Resort River Course in Williamsburg, Va.
