Williamsburg, Va. – Senior
Mia Avotins (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) finished in 16th place to lead the Le Moyne College women's golf team to eighth place at the Northeast Conference Championship on Saturday and Sunday at the par-72, 6083-yard Plantation Course at Kingsmill Resort.
FDU had three birdies on the final hole to overcome a deficit and capture the conference championship with a 54-hole score of 927 off rounds of 312, 309 and 306. Howard University, the preseason favorite and 36-hole leader, placed second with a total of 928 after scores of 310, 307 and 311. Saint Francis University finished third with a 977 after rounds of 326, 320 and 331. The Dolphins, which finished 11th last year, placed eighth at 1004 following scores of 328, 334 and 342. Howard's Paris Fieldings earned medalist honors with a 227 total after rounds of 74, 76 and 77.
Avotins registered a three-round total of 242, which included five birdies and 23 pars, to finish in 16th place, an improvement of 26 spots from last year's championship. She recorded one birdie and nine pars en route to an 83 in the first round. She then had four birdies and three pars in the second round as she finished at 80 to end the day in 21st place. She carded a 79 in the final round to move up five places.
Sophomore
Gianna Cafarella (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory School) tied for 20th (up 26 spots from last year) with a total of 145, which included five birdies and 25 pars. She opened with a 76, which featured two birdies and 10 pars. She then carded an 82, which included one birdie and nine pars, to end Saturday in a four-way tie for sixth.
Freshmen
Lauren Williams (San Francisco, Calif./University HS) ended her first collegiate year in a four-way tie for 36th place with a total of 258, which included five birdies and 19 pars. She had two birdies and five pars as she played to an 84 in the first round and then posted one birdie and eight pars en route to an 87 to land in a five-way tie for 34th place. She turned in an 87 in the final round, which included two birdies and six pars.
Freshman
Olivia Dahn (Bristol, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) placed 50th with a total of 261, which featured 21 pars. She had an 86 in the first round, which featured seven pars, and an 85 in the afternoon, which included seven more pars, to end the day in a five-way tie for 34th place. She had another seven pars in the third round en route to a 90.
Junior
Riley Stuver (Webster, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) tallied an 85 in the first round, including one birdie and six pars. She then had six pars as part an 89 in the afternoon.
Sophomore
Campbell Kennedy (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa) was inserted into the lineup for the final round and posted an 89, which included six pars.
