WOMEN’S GOLF PLACES SIXTH AFTER FIRST ROUND OF YSU SPRING INVITATIONAL

Warren, Ohio – Senior Mia Avotins (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) is tied for 14th place to lead the Le Moyne College women's golf team to a sixth-place finish after the first day of the YSU Spring Invitational on Sunday at the par-72, 5813-yard Avalon Lakes Golf Course.

The host Penguins have a 10-shot lead following a one-under 287 in the first round. Bucknell University is in second place with a 297 and Saint Francis University is third after carding a 303. The Dolphins turned in a 325 to land in sixth place. Youngstown State's Maddi Shoults is the individual leader following a three-under par 69.

Avotins is in a tie for 14th place in the 55-member field after turning in a 77, which included one birdie and 12 pars. Sophomore Gianna Cafarella (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory School) posted one birdie and nine pars en route to a 79, which has her in a tie for 21st place. Freshman Lauren Williams (San Francisco, Calif./University HS) is in a four-way tied for 28th place following an 82, which featured 11 pars. Junior Riley Stuver (Webster, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy), sophomore Cambell Kennedy (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and freshman Olivia Dahn (Bristol, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) are all part of a four-way tie for 40th place after recording an 87. Stuver had one birdie and four pars, Kennedy had seven pars and Dahn posted one birdie and five pars.

The second round is scheduled to get underway on Monday at 9:00 a.m. with the Dolphins starting on the 10th hole.
