Northborough, Mass. – Nine members of the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division I Academic Honor Roll, as announced by the association on Wednesday afternoon.
The Dolphins were represented on the list by seniors
Katherine Amico (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius),
Grace Brinza (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy),
Grace Detor (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee),
Reagan McQuade (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) and
Anna Montgomery (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) and juniors
Jane Austenfeld (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point),
Theresa Grosso (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt),
Bella Sampo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) and
Alexa Strelick (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas). Amico, Brinza, Detor, McQuade and Montgomery each earned Academic Honor Roll recognition for the second straight year, while the four juniors earned the honor in their first year of eligibility.
The Academic Honor Roll was comprised of 1176 student-athletes from 124 institutions. All student-athletes were nominated by their schools and have achieved at least junior status academically and have a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
Additionally, the team as a whole earned IWLCA Academic Honor Squad recognition for carrying a GPA above 3.2 for the academic year. The Dolphins are one of 117 Division I programs to earn the distinction.
Amico, a management & leadership and marketing dual major, recorded career-highs of 25 ground balls and caused 19 turnovers as a starter in all 17 games. She collected multiple ground balls in nine games, including four in a pair of games She caused multiple turnovers on four occasions, including a career best-tying six at Mercyhurst on April 9 to tie the program's single-game record. She also earned a spot on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® At-Large Team.
Austenfeld, an environmental science and risk management and insurance dual major, tallied a career-high seven points on a career-best six goals and one assist as a starter in four of 11 games played, while adding 11 draw controls. She tied her career high with two goals against both Vermont and Central Connecticut State. She also collected a career high-tying four draw controls against Vermont.
Brinza, a finance and analytics dual major, tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with a career-high 19, while adding 21 ground balls, the third-most on the team, as a starter in each of the team's last 16 games. A Northeast Conference All-Conference Second Team selection, she caused multiple turnovers in six games, including a career-best four at Delaware State (March 15). She also scooped up multiple ground balls in six games, including three in a pair of contests. She also earned a spot on the CSC Academic All-District® At-Large Team.
Detor, a finance and risk management & insurance dual major, registered 15 points one 24 goals and four assists as a starter in four of 17 games played. She recorded multiple points in three games, including three in a win over Howard.
Grosso, a psychology major, recorded career highs of 17 ground balls and eight caused turnovers as a starter on the back line in all 17 games. She collected a pair of ground balls on four occasions and caused a career-high two turnovers at UMass Lowell.
McQuade, a risk management & insurance major, posted 11 points on nine goals and two assists as a starter in 10 of 17 games played. She had a pair of games with multiple points, including a career high-tying four in a win over La Salle on March 1.
Montgomery, a political science major, registered 18 ground balls and five caused turnovers as a starter in all 17 games. She tallied multiple ground balls in four contests, including a career-high five against Wagner, and caused a career-best two turnovers against Central Connecticut State. She also earned a spot on the CSC Academic All-District® At-Large Team.
Sampo, a psychology major, led the Dolphins in scoring with a career-high 32 points on 14 goals and a team-best 18 assists as a starter in 16 of 17 games, while adding a career-best 14 ground balls. A Northeast Conference All-Conference Second Team honoree, she recorded multiple points in six games, including three games with at least four points and a career-high seven against Howard. She found the back of the net multiple times in three contests, including a career-high four goals against Howard (April 12), and dished out multiple assists in five games, including a career-best four at Stonehill (March 16). She also earned a spot on the CSC Academic All-District® At-Large Team.
Strelick, a biology major, tallied a career-bests of 24 points, 12 goals and 12 assists as a starter in six of 16 games played. She had five games with multiple points, including a career-high six on career bests of three goals and three assists at Delaware State. She also earned a spot on the CSC Academic All-District® At-Large Team.
The Dolphins finished the season with a 4-13 record, including a 3-6 mark in NEC action.
