Manchester, N.H. – Sophomores
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) each won in singles action and teamed on a doubles victory to lead the Le Moyne College men's tennis team to a 5-4 win over Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday evening at the SNHU Courts.
The Dolphins, who defeated the Penmen for the first time since the 2009-10 season and won in Manchester for first time in over 10 seasons, opened the match by winning the top two doubles matches. At first doubles, Gayvert and Spoor beat Emerson Kelby and Evan Eaton, 8-3. Freshmen
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) were victorious at second doubles, 8-5, over Xavier Aubron and Peter Wylie. The Penmen earned their first point of the day at third doubles as Jeremy Reichentahl and Mark Dobek topped redshirt junior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.) and sophomore
Adam Celeta (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional), 8-6.
In singles action, Gayvert defeated Aubron in straight sets at the top spot, taking the first, 7-6, and then closing out the match with a 7-5 win in the second set. At fourth singles, Spoor registered a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Eaton. Legris clinched the match for the Dolphins with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 win over Brad Malenich at the fifth spot. At second singles, Kelby was a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 winner over Barton, while Doney was edged by Wylie at third singles, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Reichentahl earned SNHU's last point with a 6-1, 6-2 win at sixth singles over Celeta.
Le Moyne (4-0, 3-0 NE-10) close out the Fall season on Sunday at Merrimack College at 10:00 a.m.
