Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team won its third straight match to open the season with a 7-2 victory over Saint Anselm College on Sunday in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
Le Moyne started off the match by recording wins in two of the three doubles matches. Sophomores
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) combined for an 8-3 victory at first doubles over Eric Howes and Adam Weinstein. At second doubles, freshmen
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) cruised to an 8-0 win over Robert Patenaude and Andrew Overton. Benji Page and Kyle Harris earned Saint Anselm's first point with an 8-3 win at third doubles over redshirt junior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.) and sophomore
Adam Celeta (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional).
In singles action, Gayvert improved to 3-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Howes at the top spot. Barton earned his second NE-10 win, 6-0, 6-2, over Harris at second singles, while Doney stayed undefeated with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at third singles over Weinstein. Spoor tallied his third dual-match victory by topping Page at fourth singles, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, while Legris did the same with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Patenaude at fifth singles. Overton earned the Hawks their second point with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory over Celeta at sixth singles.
Le Moyne (3-0, 2-0 NE-10) is back on the courts on Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University at 11:00 a.m.
