Syracuse, N.Y. – Le Moyne College Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Matt Bassett announced on Thursday morning the hiring of
Jeff Lonczak '03 as head men's and women's tennis coach.
Lonczak, who is currently the Head Tennis Professional at Skaneateles Country Club, comes to Le Moyne from Colgate University, where he was an assistant coach for one season.
He has more than 15 years of experience coaching and teaching tennis to players of all levels and skills in Central New York. Carrying United States Professional Tennis Association certification, Lonczak has coached and taught tennis at Eastside Racquet Club, Manlius YMCA, Gold's Gym, Le Moyne College, Onondaga Community College, Hamilton College and Colgate. In his first year as an assistant coach of the men's team at Onondaga Community College, the Lazers captured the 2008 NJCAA Division III National Championship after three singles players won individual national championships and the second doubles team won the national championship. In 2009, the Lazers finished third and had one individual national champion and a pair of runner-ups. He is also a member of the Syracuse men's 5.0+ team and plays national open events.
He started his collegiate playing career at Onondaga Community College, where he was a three-time All-America selection. In his first year with the Lazers, he captured the NJCAA National Championship at first doubles and was runner-up at second singles. He then won the NJCAA National Championship at first singles in 2000. For his efforts, he was a member of the inaugural Hall of Fame class at OCC in 2004.
Lonczak played his final two years of collegiate tennis at Le Moyne. He was named the Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference Second Team in doubles and was a Third Team selection in singles. He was ranked as high as No. 9 in the Northeast Region during his time as a Dolphin.
Lonczak received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the College in December 2003 and went on to earn his Masters degree from SUNY Oswego in December 2008.
