WOMEN'S SOCCER HOSTS BENTLEY FOR NE10 CLASH ON SATURDAY

10/14/2022 2:07:00 PM

Syracuse, N.Y. – It's an exciting time on The Heights with the Le Moyne College Women's Soccer Team in the NE10 Conference Playoff hunt.

The Dolphins are currently tied for 6th place in the NE10 standings with four other teams, including their opponent for Saturday's afternoon match on Ted Grant Field – Bentley University.

The Falcons have the same conference record as the Dolphins – 3-4-1 – and both teams are coming off an NE10 victory, looking to build momentum during a critical stretch of the season.

Le Moyne most recently pulled off an impressive 1-0 victory at home over Southern Connecticut State University, who currently occupies 4th place in the conference standings.

Sophomore forward Brooke Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) put away the go-ahead goal during that victory on an assist from Freshman midfielder Lindsey LeBlanc (Westminster, Mass./St. Bernard's) early in the first half. Wilson currently leads all Le Moyne field players in minutes played this season with 1,051.

The assist was LeBlanc's third of the campaign and combined with her goal in the season-opener against Chestnut Hill puts her season point tally at five, which is the third highest total on the team.

Directly above her in points is fellow first-year player Avery Maxam (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton), who has accumulated seven points so far during her first collegiate season via three goals and one assist.

Sophomore defender Hildur Unnarsdóttir (Kópavogur, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) currently leads Le Moyne in points with four goals and four assists during her second season as a Dolphin.

Unnarsdóttir and sophomore defender Katelyn Courcy (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) have both started all 12 games so far in 2022 and have both played the full 90 minutes in 11 different matches.

Along with senior Reagan Sames (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa), who has played the full 90 minutes in six consecutive games at center back, the trio of Lara Lobe (Trebnje, Slovenia/Gymnasium Novo mesto), Jadyn Kantak (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) and Magda Aspholm (Östersund, Sweden/Jämtlands Gymnasium Wargentin), who have each played important minutes at left back this season, and Rylee Alston (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell), who has been utilized as both a defender and midfielder by Head Coach Jaro Zawislan,  LeMoyne's back line has improved steadily throughout the season.

Anchored by senior goalkeeper Allison Moreau (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) Le Moyne's defensive unit has recorded five clean sheets so far in 2022, which is tied for second most in the NE10.

Moreau was excellent during their 3-1 win over #25 Franklin Pierce University, making seven saves during the monumental conference victory. She needed to make five saves during the 2-0 road victory over New Haven, but as a testament to the steady improvement of Le Moyne's back line, Moreau only needed to make three stops during the 1-0 win over SCSU on Saturday.

Including Saturday's contest against Bentley, the Dolphins have four NE10 matches remaining on their regular season schedule. They will travel to Assumption University to take on the Greyhounds, who are one the teams tied in 6th place with the 'Phins and Falcons, on Tuesday, October 18, then Le Moyne will return home for a match against 3rd place Adelphi University on October 22, followed by their regular-season finale match at Pace University, who is tied for 12th place in the standings with New Haven, on October 26.

The Falcons of Bentley University are coming off a 2-1 home win over Pace on Wednesday, and prior to that they took down Mercy College, who bested Le Moyne 2-0 in non-conference play, by a score of 2-1.

Sophomore goalkeeper Claire Ewen has started 12 games in goal for the Falcons, tallying 60 saves, five wins and three shutouts so far this season.

Senior midfielder/forward Brooke Jones leads the team in points with four goals and three assists and has put an impressive 23 shots on goal in 13 games started.

Sophomore midfielder Sydney O' Connor has put 15 shots on goal so far in 2022, producing two goals for Bentley. Sophomore midfielder Liliana Silva has tallied four goals for the Falcons, while sophomore midfielder/forward Bridget Gleason has come off the bench in 12 of the 13 games and recorded three assists so far this season.

Bentley has won the last three matchup between the two women's soccer programs. The most recent Le Moyne victory over the Falcons came in October of 2017, when the Dolphins bested Bentley 3-1 on Ted Grant Field.

Kick off for Saturday's match between Bentley and Le Moyne is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
