Utica, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's indoor track and field team placed fifth at the Orange and Blue Invitational hosted by Utica University on Saturday at the Hutton Sports & Recreation Center. The men's team finished in ninth place.
"We had a lot of things go right," said head coach
Robin Wheeless. "Lots of personal records and a couple school records. It was great to see the team pulling together, especially in the relays. Two of the highlights were
Lilly Capria and Abby Seaman. They started the day finishing second and fourth in the triple jump. They followed that up by finishing first and second in the high jump with Lilly breaking her own high jump record."
"Our women's 4x200 team of
Shaina Smith,
Chelsea Dennison, Catherine "Cat" Durant and
Cleo Baker ran one of the fastest times in school history to win the event. The men's 4x200 team of Brandon and
Connor Scott,
Christian Carlin-Saracene and
Payton Hirsch crushed the school record by about a second and a half. I saw two interesting things when I looked at these records. The first was that Brandon was on each of the top three 4x200 teams and Christian is now on the record-holding teams for the 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800."
"We have two more meets before the Conference Championship and our team is moving in the right direction."
Vassar won the women's team competition with 94 points. SUNY Oneonta tallied 86 points to place second and RPI was third with 74 points. After Alvernia in fourth place with 69 points, Le Moyne scored 57 points to finish fifth.
