Louisville, Ky. – Le Moyne College men's lacrosse junior attackman
Joey Pezzimenti (Victor, N.Y./Victor/UAlbany) has been named to the First Team as 10 Dolphins earned USILA North Region honors, as announced by the association on Monday afternoon.
Le Moyne, which won its first 17 games for the fourth time in the program's history, had a region-best 10 members honored by the association. In addition to Pezzimenti on the first team, junior midfielder
Kyle Caves (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), graduate student short-stick defensive midfielder
John Galimi (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee), fifth year midfielder
Sam Lambert (Victor, N.Y./Victor), senior long-stick midfielder
Nick Noel (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) and graduate student goalkeeper
Matt Vavonese (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Canisius) earned a spot on the second team. Fifth year faceoff specialist
Nico Mattia (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) and junior defenseman
Jagger Kerr (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) were selected to the third team. Graduate student attackman
Kevin Sheehan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and redshirt sophomore short-stick defensive midfielder
Dom DelPonte (Upper Saddle, N.J./St. Joseph Regional) were tabbed honorable mention.
Pezzimenti, who earlier this month became the 10th Dolphin in the program's history to be selected as the NE10 Player of the Year, earns his first career USILA honors. A starter in all 18 games in his first year with the program, he led the Dolphins in points with 71, goals with 45 and assists with 26. He ranks seventh in the North Region in points, tied for 12th in goals and tied for 13th in assists. His 71 points are the fourth-most by a Dolphin in a season in the program's history and are the most in 21 seasons, while his 45 goals are tied for the sixth-most in a campaign. He had 12 games with at least three points, including eight games with at least five, and eight games with at least three goals, including a career-high six against seventh-ranked UIndy and 10th-ranked Bentley in the NE10 championship game.
Caves earns his first career USILA accolades after collecting his first career NE10 All-Conference honor with a spot on the first team. A starter on the first midfield line in all 18 games, he had 38 points on 29 goals and nine assists. He ranked 12th in the NE10 in man-up goals with four. He had five games with at least three points, including a pair of games with at least five, and seven games with at least two goals, including a career-best five in the season-opening win over second-ranked Mercy.
Galimi, who earned his third consecutive NE10 All-Conference accolades and his second straight appearance on the First Team earlier this month, collects his third straight USILA All-Region honors and his second consecutive appearance on the Second Team. He recorded career highs with 18 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers as a starter in all 18 games played. He had five games with multiple ground balls.
Lambert was recognized by the USILA for the first time in his career after earning second team all-conference honors for the first time in his career. A starter in 11 of 12 games played, he had a career-high 31 points on a career-best 13 goals and a career-high 18 assists. He had multiple points in eight games, including a career-high six points in the win over UIndy, while netting multiple goals in three games, including a career-best three in a 10-9 win over fifth-ranked Adelphi in the regular season finale.
Noel earns the first USILA honors of his career after picking up his first career all-conference recognition with a spot on the second team. A starter in all 18 games played, he led the nation's second-ranked defense with 49 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers, both of which are career highs. He ranks second in the NE10 amongst non-faceoff specialists in ground balls. He had 15 games with multiple ground balls, including three games with at least four, and a trio of games with at least two caused turnovers, including a career-high four in the NCAA semifinals on Sunday.
Vavonese also receives his first career USILA recognition after earning his first all-conference accolades with a second team spot earlier this month. The starter in all 18 games in his first year as a Dolphin, Vavonese had a 7.20 goals against average, 170 saves and a .592 save percentage. He also had 46 ground balls, third-most on the team, and 12 caused turnovers, tied for the fourth-most on the team. He leads Division II in goals against average and finishes the year ranked fourth in save percentage. He has registered double-digit saves in eight games, including a season-high 16 in each victory over Bentley.
Mattia gives the Dolphins an all-region faceoff specialist in each of the three years of the honor. The starter at the dot in all 18 games, he was 209-of-373 for a .560 win percentage with 108 ground balls. He ranks 11th in the North Region in win percentage, while his 209 wins are the sixth-most in the region. He also ranks 10th in the region in ground balls. He had 15 games with at least 10 faceoff wins and seven games with at least seven ground balls.
Kerr was recognized by the USILA for the first time after collecting all-conference honors for the first time in his career with a second team spot. The only Dolphin to start at low defense in all 18 games, he had 21 ground balls and nine caused turnovers, both of which were career highs. He had five games with multiple ground balls and eight games with a caused turnover.
Sheehan is an honorable mention honoree for the second time in his career (2021). A starter in all 17 games played, he registered 34 points on a career-best 25 goals and nine assists, while adding a career-high 23 ground balls. He had eight games with at least three points, including each of the team's four postseasons contests, and nine games with at least two goals, including four games with a trio of tallies.
DelPonte is a USILA honoree for the first time after receiving all-conference third team recognition for the first time. A member of the short-stick defensive midfielder rotation, he had 13 caused turnovers, the second-most on the team, to go with 23 ground balls. He caused multiple turnovers in four games, while picking up at least two ground balls in seven contests.
The Dolphins closed out the season with a 17-1 record after appearing in the NCAA semifinals for the 17th time in the last 21 full seasons.
