Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Freshman forward Michael Spadine (Owego, N.Y./Owego) scored two goals to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
Spadine got the Dolphins on the only goal they would need at the 12:26 mark with a header off a pass from senior back Sean Lawlor (Kirkham, Preston/Baines School). Despite holding a 6-1 advantage in shots over the final 23 minutes of the first half, the Greyhounds were unable to even the score. Four of Assumption's shots were on goal, but freshman goalkeeper Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ontario/St. Augustine) was able to make the save each time.
After 25 scoreless minutes to open the second half, Spadine doubled Le Moyne's lead with his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Senior Justin Fredsell (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford/UBuffalo) sent a pass to Spadine, who scored from 15 yards out in front of the goal. Senior forward Angelo Reina">Angelo Reina (Frankfort, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame), who missed the first five games of the season, tallied his first goal of the year with 1:42 remaining on a breakaway to cap the game's scoring.
Silva recorded five saves, all in the first half, to record his first career win and shutout. Brandon Sullivan posted seven saves in the loss for the Greyhounds. Le Moyne finished the contest with a 12-9 edge in shots after registering a 9-2 advantage in the second half, while also taking three of the game's four corner kicks.
Le Moyne (3-2-3, NE-10 2-1-2), which has posted a shutout in four of its last five games, returns home to face Saint Michael's on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
