Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. – John Sabal scored 14 minutes into the game to lead Adelphi University to a 3-0 win over the Le Moyne College men's soccer team in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship quarterfinals on Tuesday evening at Motamed Field.

Sabal tallied the only goal the Panthers would need by heading a loose ball into the back of the net at the 14:00 mark for his second goal of the season.

The Dolphins had five shots over the final 31 minutes of the half to tie the score, but only put one shot on target, which was saved by Adelphi goalkeeper Ahmad Salamah. The Panthers had six chances to double their lead, but one shot drilled off the crossbar and three were turned away by senior goalkeeper Matthew Silva">Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ontario/St. Augustine).

After each team had a shot saved over the opening 10 minutes of the second half, Adelphi pushed its lead to two with 32:29 remaining. Nicholas Costa sent a low cross in front of the net, where Caelan Hueber drilled the ball into the goal for his seventh tally of the campaign.

In a counterattack following a Le Moyne corner kick, Adelphi was awarded a penalty kick with 1:23 left after Costa was taken down in the penalty box. Juan Aguiar stepped up and slotted the ball into the right side of the net for his sixth marker of the year.

Silva made seven saves in the loss for the Dolphins and ends his career with 276 saves, the eighth-most in the program's history. Salamah recorded a save in each half to register the shutout and his seventh win of the season. Adelphi posted a 19-10 advantage in shots, including 12-3 in the second half, while holding a 10-9 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne finishes the season with a record of 11-7 and earned a berth in the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Soccer Championship for the 13th straight year, the second-longest streak in the conference.
