Beverly, Mass. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team opened its final weekend of the regular season with a 6-0 loss at Bentley University on Friday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action.
At first doubles, Alex DeMuth and Kamil Pilch edged the duo of sophomores
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa), 8-6. Brendan McCarthy and George Samander registered an 8-0 victory at the second spot over freshman
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) and sophomore
Steven Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), while Chase Rosa and Sam Frye defeated sophomore
Adam Celata (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional) and redshirt junior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.), 8-2.
In singles action, only three of the six matches were finished. At the second spot, McCarthy recorded consecutive scores of 6-1 to defeat Doney. Rosa won at fourth singles over Legris with scores of 6-2 and 6-0, while Samuel Klau was also a 6-2, 6-0 winner at sixth singles against Celata. Gayvert led Pilch, 6-2, 2-1, at first singles when the match was stopped. Samander had a 6-2, 3-1 advantage over Spoor at third singles, while Daniel Camacho was leading Procopio, 6-2, 3-0, at the fifth spot.
Le Moyne (7-9, 5-4 NE-10), which clinched a spot in next week's Northeast-10 Conference Championship by virtue of Southern New Hampshire's loss against Assumption, closes out the regular season on Saturday at Stonehill College at 1:00 p.m.
