Teaneck, N.J. – The Le Moyne men's soccer team will travel to New Jersey for the third time this season on Thursday to take on the defending Northeast Conference Champion FDU Knights.
The match will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. and will be streamed on
NEC Front Row.
Le Moyne (1-4-4, 1-0-1 NEC) has scored a combined nine goals in the last four games and earned its first-ever Northeast Conference victory on Sunday at Central Connecticut State University by a score of 3-2.
The Dolphins put away a season-best three goals against the Blue Devils and recorded a season-high four assists.
Freshman forward
Felix Ludemann (Wrestedt, Germany/Herzog-Ernst-Gymnasium Uelzen) and redshirt-junior forward
Noah Sperduto (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) each scored their second goal of the season against CCSU, sophomore midfielder
Cameron Stuart (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) put away his first goal of the campaign, redshirt-junior defender
Jack Goodrich (Kelsall, England/King's School Chester) provided a career-best two assists, freshman forward
Kjell Knaak (Aukrug, Germany/Schule Hohe Geest) recorded his first career assist, and senior midfielder
David Bosak (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus/Onondaga C.C) registered his first assist as a Dolphin.
The Dolphins, who recorded a 2-2 draw against Stonehill in their NEC opener on September 24, now have four points in the conference standings through two games, which has them tied at the top of the table with Saint Francis, FDU, LIU and Sacred Heart.
Le Moyne has scored at least two goals in each of the last four games to increase its goals per game average to 1.33. The Dolphins have also taken at least 10 shots in each of their last four games to increase their shots per game average to 9.9.
Goodrich leads the Dolphins in points with two goals and two assists, while Ludemann, Sperduto and graduate midfielder
Luca Nicastro (Ottawa, Ontario/Nepean/St. Bonaventure) have contributed two goals and one assist each so far this season.
Stuart has provided two assists and a goal over the last four games.
Le Moyne freshman goalkeeper
Wyatt Dupell (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) made three saves against CCSU to record his first collegiate victory. He is averaging 5.0 saves per game through five starts in his rookie campaign.
The FDU Knights claimed both the Northeast Conference Regular Season Championship and the NEC Tournament Championship during the 2022 season.
The Knights finished the 2022 regular season with a 6-0-2 conference record. They bested fourth-seeded Sacred Heart by a score of 3-0 in the NEC Tournament Semifinals, then they erased a 1-0 second-half deficit in the title game to defeat third-seeded St. Francis Brooklyn by a score of 2-1 to claim the program's 10
th NEC Championship and earn a spot in the NCAA Championships. FDU fell to Maryland in the first round of the national tournament.
Head coach Seth Roland and his staff earned the 2022 NEC Coach of the Year award. Roland is in his 26
th season in charge of the program.
So far in 2023, FDU (4-2-3, 1-0-1 NEC) claimed a 4-2 win over Howard in its conference opener on September 24, then recorded a 1-1 draw at Saint Francis on Sunday.
Graduate goalkeeper Spencer King was the 2022 NEC Goalkeeper of the Year after recording nine shutouts in 17 games started. King did not allow a single goal in 585:00 minutes played against NEC opponents.
So far this season, King has compiled four clean sheets, including a 0-0 draw against Villanova during which he tallied a career-high 14 saves.
The 2022 FDU defense was highlighted by Hugo Bacharach, a three-time First Team All-NEC selection and the 2022 NEC Defensive Player of the Year, who transferred to Indiana University this past summer to play his senior season with the Hoosiers.
Senior forward Jayd Hamdaoua leads the Knights in points so far this season with four goals and one assist. Hamdaoua recorded a hat trick during the win over Howard, then put away the team's lone goal against SFU on a penalty kick in the 46h minute.
Senior forward Tony Gomez, who led the Knights in points in 2022, earned a spot on the NEC All-Conference Second Team, and provided the assist on the go-ahead goal in the NEC Tournament Final against St. Francis Brooklyn, has tallied three goals and one assist so far this season.
FDU sophomore forward Jaime Barbero, a 2022 NEC All-Rookie Team selection who was named NEC Tournament Most Valuable Player after scoring both of FDU's goal off the bench in the championship final, has scored one goal so far this season.
Following Thursday's match at FDU, the Dolphins will play their final non-conference match of the season at Stony Brook on October 11, then they will resume conference play on October 15 at home against Saint Francis University.
