MACNABB LEADS DOLPHINS PAST ASSUMPTION, 2-1

Box Score

Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore midfielder Zachary MacNabb (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/UNC Pembroke) scored a goal and dished out an assist to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.

MacNabb got the Dolphins on the scoreboard just 36 seconds into the game with his second goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Emmanuel Chanelo (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) carried the ball to the endline on the right side of the field before sending a crossing pass in front of the goal. MacNabb charged into the goal box on the left side and headed the ball into the back of the net from two yards away.

The Greyhounds controlled play the remainder of the first half, but were unable to put any of their seven shots into the net.

Le Moyne increased its lead to two goals just over five minutes into the second half. Following a foul near the right sideline, senior midfielder Jesse Carr (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) sent the free kick into the penalty box. After multiple deflections, MacNabb headed the ball from the left side of the box towards the middle of the goal box, where freshman midfielder Casey Murphy (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) kicked the ball out of the air into the left side of the goal for his first career tally.

Assumption cut its deficit in half with 19:20 remaining after a Le Moyne turnover along the edge of the goal box. Midfielder Tom Carroll stole the ball in front of the Le Moyne net and slid a shot into the lower left corner of the goal for his first marker of the season.

Carroll had a chance to tie the score five minutes later, but Le Moyne junior back Bob Buchanan (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa) headed the ball away before it could sneak underneath the cross bar.

Sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Silva">Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ontario/St. Augustine) made three saves in between the pipes for the Dolphins. Assumption's Matt Wrenn did not make a save, while allowing both goals, in just over 58 minutes of action, while Dylan Strachen made one save over the final 31:49. The Greyhounds held a 12-11 advantage in shots, while taking 10 of the game's 16 corner kicks.

Le Moyne (4-2-1, 3-0 NE-10), which has won its first three conference games for the first time since the 2000 season, returns to action on Saturday at Southern New Hampshire at 4:00 p.m.
