Buffalo, N.Y. – The Le Moyne men's soccer team will play a non-conference contest at Canisius University on Wednesday. The match will kickoff at 4:00 p.m., and it will be streamed on ESPN+.
The two programs have played 10 games against one another between 1967 and 1977. The Dolphins hold a 9-0-1 record against the Golden Griffins during that time span. The lone draw occurred in Buffalo in 1976 when both sides recorded two goals.

The Dolphins are coming off a 2-2 draw against Stonehill College at home on Sunday in their Northeast Conference opener. Le Moyne faced a 1-0 deficit and a 2-1 deficit during the match, but first career goals from redshirt-sophomore midfielder Ziad Abdul-Malak (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) and graduate defender Ben Quigley (Perth, Scotland/Community School of Auchterarder/University of Stirling) helped the 'Phins earn a point in their NEC debut.

Sunday marked the 40th career appearance, and 40th career start for Quigley during his Le Moyne career. The center back started 15 games in 2021, then he started 18 games in 2022, and has started all seven games so far this season.

Graduate midfielder Luca Nicastro (Ottawa, Ontario/Nepean/St. Bonaventure) assisted on Abdul-Malak's goal, which occurred two minutes after Stonehill broke the 0-0 tie in the first half.

Nicastro, who scored his second goal of the season during Le Moyne's 2-2 draw at Delaware on September 19, currently leads the Dolphins in points. Nicastro was named an NEC Prime Performer for the second time this season after tallying three points during the Dolphins' 0-0-2 week.

Le Moyne recorded a season-high eight shots on goal at Delaware, then the squad registered a season-high 15 shots against the Skyhawks.

Redshirt-junior defender Jack Goodrich (Kelsall, England/King's School Chester) has two goals in 2023 after converting penalty kicks against Lindenwood and Delaware. The outside back has recorded 16 points during his Le Moyne career, and also made his 40th career start on Sunday.

Freshman goalkeeper Wyatt Dupell (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse), who registered nine saves during the draw at Delaware, recorded five saves against the Skyhawks in his third start of the year.

Freshman defender Maximilian Huss (Karben, Germany/Elly-Heuss-Schule) leads the Dolphins in minutes played.

With a total of four goals during their two matches last week, the Dolphins increased their goals per game average to 1.00.

The Canisius Golden Griffins are led by second-year head coach Michael Tanke. During Tanke's first year as the program's leader in 2022, the Griffs compiled six draws and a victory, including three draws in MAAC action.

The Golden Griffins (1-6-2) are coming off a 3-3 draw in conference play against Quinnipiac, and previously suffered a 4-0 loss to Manhattan in their MAAC opener.

Canisius has already taken on three NEC teams this season in non-conference action, with a 2-1 loss at Saint Francis on August 24, a 2-2 draw at Stonehill on September 1, and a 4-2 win over Central Connecticut State on September 4.

Canisius traveled to Syracuse earlier this season for an exhibition contest against SU.

Sophomore midfielder Michael Switala leads the Griffs in points with three goals and one assist, including two goals during the win over CCSU.

Junior forward Ely Sidibe, who graduated from Nottingham High School in Syracuse, has two goals and two assists through seven games played.

Sophomore midfielder Daniel Longo has contributed two goals and one assist in a team-high 658 minutes played.

Freshman forward Mason Petrucci and sophomore midfielder Kyle Pollard have both tallied one goal and two assists with eight starts each so far this season.

Canisius junior goalkeeper Jack Petrie has started six games this season. He recorded eight saves during the draw against Stonehill, three saves during the win over CCSU, five saves during a 4-2 loss to Cornell, eight saves during the loss to Manhattan, and two saves during the draw against Quinnipiac.

Graduate keeper Spencer Catalano has protected the Canisius goal in three games, including a 2-0 loss to Binghamton during which he recorded seven saves.

Canisius took a season-best 16 shots during the win over CCSU, including a season-high 10 shots on goal.

Following Wednesday's match at Canisius, Le Moyne will resume NEC play on Sunday at Central Connecticut State with a 1:00 p.m. match against the Blue Devils. The 'Phins will then travel to FDU for a battle against the Knights at 7:00 p.m. on October 5 before concluding their non-conference slate on October 10 at Stony Brook.
