The 1981 baseball team went 48-8 over the Fall and Spring seasons and finished in seventh place at the NCAA Championships. The team featured four members who earned election into the Gold Wave Hall of Fame and four who went on to play professionally. The Dolphins went 21-2 during the Fall season, the best in the program's history, including a 19-game winning streak. During the Spring, the Dolphins went 27-6, including 24-4 in the regular season. The team won its last 15 regular season games (just like the Hall of Fame 1979 team) and extended the streak to 18 by winning its three games of the Northeast Regional at MacArthur Stadium, home of the Syracuse Chiefs. The Dolphins captured their third regional title in four years by defeating Adelphi University in the championship game to advance to the NCAA Championships in Riverside, California. The Dolphins scored five runs in each game at the Championships, but suffered losses to Cal State Northridge and Eastern Illinois. Mike Fennell, Steve Malisa and Dave Thomson earned all-America honors.
