Versatility…

It can be argued that the most talented group of athletes ever to attend Le Moyne was assembled on the Heights in the mid-seventies.  The basketball Dolphins peaked in 1976-77, stunning six Division I teams while building a 15-7 record.  Meanwhile, the baseball team secured a reputation for excellence with consistent success in post-season play, and green and gold soccer achieved its only NCAA playoff bid.

Steadying the Dolphins’ fortunes on the court and on the mound from 1975 through 1979 was the tallest sibling of a family that made its mark on Le Moyne athletics throughout the decade.  His contributions were sometimes overshadowed by stellar performances by teammates honored in this Hall.  But none surpassed his versatility, his capacity to excel in two sports, and in so many facets of each.

With a point guard’s ball handling ability built into a 6’6” frame, he averaged almost 10 points and four rebounds a game in four seasons of varsity basketball competition.  Though starting in the back court, he pulled down more than 100 rebounds in both his junior and senior year.

A standout pitcher, he compiled a gaudy career record of 29-4 with a 1.91 earned run average and 22 complete games.  In his final year on the Heights, he won 12 of 14 decisions, allowing only 15 earned runs in 87 innings while completing 11 games to earn first team Division II All-America honors.

Clearly no stranger to multiple roles, today he is a husband and father who brings technical, financial and personal skills to his career as a representative for Digital Equipment Corporation.

Because no more versatile player has worn the green and gold
