Ken King – Class of 2006
Among the elite…
He goes about his work with a quiet passion. There is no detail unconsidered; no possibility without a plan. He earns respect without swagger. He builds trust through compassion. He instills confidence with genuine enthusiasm for his players’ accomplishments.
He has been associated with Le Moyne Athletics for almost two decades and has served as head volleyball coach since 1991 and head softball coach since 1997.
Under his direction Dolphin softball has clearly become one of the nation’s elite Division II programs. Over a period of years, elite programs consistently win their conference and earn national recognition. His teams have done that and more, earning five consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament and winning four of the last five Northeast regional championships while dominating the Northeast-10 conference.
The 2005 squad typifies the character that marks his teams. Dropped to the losers’ bracket in the second game of the NCAA Northeast Regional, the Dolphins were one loss from a trip home. But they came back to win five consecutive games, including two straight over top-seeded C.W. Post, to capture a trip to the NCAA Championships.
Under his leadership, in 2003 and 2005 Le Moyne’s softball coaching staff was honored as the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year. His softball teams have compiled a 284-140-3 (.669) record, including a stunning .720 winning percentage since the turn of the century. The 2003 team’s 47 All-Conference, 19 All-Region and three All-Americans.
Meanwhile, his volleyball teams have posted a solid 261-183 (.589) record and he has developed six All-Conference players.
A devoted husband and father, a former educator with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse, and a member of the Liverpool High School Hall of Fame, his meticulous organization, compassion and enthusiasm for his players has placed the Dolphins Softball program among the nation’s elite. Therefore
