Hall of Fame
The most decorated offensive player in the program's history, Mike McDonald '08 is just the sixth member of the men's lacrosse program to be elected to the Hall of Fame. The only offensive player to be a three-time USILA First Team All-America selection in the program's history and one of only two players in the program's history to be recognized by the USILA all four years, McDonald led the Dolphins to back-to-back National Championships and an additional two NCAA semifinal appearances, while the Dolphins went 62-5 overall, 37-2 in NE10 play and captured three NE10 tournament titles. After earning USILA All-America Honorable Mention recognition as a freshman, McDonald was named to the USILA All-America First Team each of the following three years. He was selected as the recipient of the USILA's Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award as the Most Outstanding Player in Division II as a senior and was named the recipient of the USILA's Lt. Col. J.I. Turnbull Award as the Most Outstanding Attackman in Division II as a junior and senior. As a sophomore, he was named the NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player after scoring four goals and assisting on another as the Dolphins completed an 18-0 season with a 12-5 victory over Dowling for their second national championship. He repeated as the NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player the following year after netting the game-winning goal with one second left to give the Dolphins a 6-5 victory over Mercyhurst for their second straight national championship. To go along with his numerous national awards, McDonald was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year in 2008, the NE10 Rookie of the Year in 2005 and to the NE10 All-Conference First Team all four years of his career. He was also named the NE10 Championship Most Valuable Player in 2007, when the Dolphins avenged a regular season loss at Bryant with a 5-4 win over the Bulldogs in the NE10 title game. Statistically, McDonald finished his career with 227 points on 137 goals and 90 assists as a starter in 65 of 67 games played. He ranks second in the program's history in points and goals scored and fifth in assists, while he is third in extra-man goals with 20. As a sophomore, he became the fifth player in the program's history with 40+ goals and 20+ assists in the same season (a feat which has only accomplished three times since). En route to his national player of the year honors in 2008, he became the sixth player in the program's history with 30+ goals and 25+ assists (a feat only accomplished four times since). He concluded his time on the Heights as the recipient of the 2007-08 Rev. J.J. O'Brien, S.J. Male Senior Athlete Achievement Award.
