The 1987-88 Men's Basketball team returned Le Moyne College to the national stage. The Dolphins went 24-6, won the Mid-East Conference Championship and were selected to the NCAA Championships for the first time in 19 years. Featuring three members of the Gold Wave Hall of Fame (Pete Jerebko, Scott Hicks and Len Rauch) and coached by another (John Beilein), the Dolphins established a new program record for wins in a season with their 24, topping the previous mark of 20. The Dolphins went 10-2 in Mid-East Conference action and posted winning streaks of seven and nine during the regular season. In the Mid-East Conference Tournament, the Dolphins edged Philadelphia, 73-72, in the semifinals to set up a match-up in the championship game with Gannon University, which had defeated the Dolphins in the conference tournament the prior two seasons and won seven straight meetings overall. The Dolphins registered a 71-67 victory over the Golden Knights in overtime to claim their first Mid-East Conference Championship. In the NCAA Championships, the Dolphins were edged by California University of Pennsylvania, 91-88, before closing out the year with a win over Kutztown University. The 1987-88 Dolphins scored the most points, made the most field goals and recorded the most assists in the program's history, while registering the second-highest scoring average (highest at the time) and three-point percentage, third-best field goal percentage, fourth-most steals (most at the time) and sixth-most rebounds (second-most at the time).
